Bill, we once had a terrier named Nipper (named after the RCA/HMV dog, natch) totally fearless (particularly with snakes), but tending to yap a bit when people came to the door. I get the picture with Jake - saw "Raging Bull".

Mickey, on 'Seven nights to rock' Moon is backed by Boyd Bennett's Rockets, so it's not your typical Moon. As far as Amos is concerned, he can do no wrong for me, I've got the Mosaic box of his Aladdin stuff and named one of my West Highland Terriers after him. The other one, Jake is named after Jake La Motta.

Bill, I haven't heard "Seven Nights To Rock" but Memphis Slim's "Living Like A King" is a fave of mine - I had it on one of those Duke compilation LPs. I had a King LP of Moon Mullican's stuff and as I remember there was a track "Cherokee Boogie" (or similar title) that was pure proto-JLL. Mind you, if we're talking Jerry Lee Lewis influences, Amos Milburn's "Down The Road A Piece" would have to be a major contender. Guess what? Sometimes I wish I hadn't sold all my records. Duh.

Mickey, yes I'm sure he influenced JLL, who mentioned Moon on his dates at Tito's nightspot in Stockton on his 1966 tour. My favourite Moon track is 'Seven nights to rock', very similar in content to 'Livin' like a king' by Memphis Slim on Peacock.

Hi Earl. I have problems with this being listed as an Oz issue despite the stickers. It was a U.K. "export" pressing and probably copies ended up in a number of countries. As you say, a lot of 78s listed in Aussie catalogs were listed as imports, the most obvious being HMV "B" series (as opposed to Aussie "EA" series) sold in Oz for decades with royalty stickers attached, but still U.K. issues. I guess this will be a never ending discussion on this site and ultimately I don't really care as long as the records get listed. Meanwhile, I have a bit of a soft spot for Moon Mullican. It seems he plays organ on this one but I really like his piano playing which surely influenced Jerry Lee Lewis. My favourite Mullican track is probably "I'll Sail My Ship Alone"...
