Thanks for your information. I've updated my personal database with the new info.

You are right, the International Columbia Orchestra could easily be no more than an ad-hoc studio band. Columbia did record international artists, though, when they toured New York, for example the Austrian Kunstpfeifer (whistling artist) Fred Kornau (https://www.45worlds.com/78rpm/record/e4556).

In this case, the band is not necessarily Swiss, but at least its real name can be determined. R. Spottswood (Ethnic Music On Records, vol. 1, p. 243) lists the orchester that recorded matrix numbers 84111 and 84113 as Schweizer-Aelpler Orchester (sic! He means Schweizer Älpler-Orchester or Swiss Alpine Orchestra). These musicians weren't necessarily Swiss-born, though, except for their leader, Albert Bachmann, who had played professionally in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, before he came to the United States (source).

Are you sure this is a Swiss orchestra? I thought it was Columbia Orchestra using this name when playing the label's ethnic stuff for their E series. I will add the matrix numbers to Notes from now on, if images are hard to read. Could also be useful to DAHR one day...

Many of these ethnic records are not on DAHR, so thanks for providing the matrix info. Hopefully, this will at some point make it possible to identify this Swiss orchester.

By the way, I've experienced the same problem scanning these labels. There is just not enough contrast between the gold font and the light green labels, and the gold print also seems to wear off relatively easily.

Sorry about the bad images. My original labels are immaculate, but gold on light green label very hard to reproduce. Matrix numbers 84111/84113 respectively.

Can you make out the matrix numbers that are listed on the bottom of the label?
