 The date of the RITE pressing is indeed January of 1957. There is no evidence that the RITE pressing was the very first pressing. This does not prove that no pressing was made in December of 1956, no matter how often it is posted. There is evidence that it was being played on the radio in late 1956. A claim is made elsewhere that the DJ heavily promoting the Dell-Vikings might have been playing an "acetate". This is not likely, as acetates are very delicate, and can only be played a few times before the sound degrades audibly. So he would have had to at least have either a test press or an actual release in order to play it daily on the radio...

All that said, it is unlikely that the 78 came out previous to the 45. So it might well be the case that the 78 was not released until 1957.
