| xiphophilos ● 16th Sep 2019 | Thanks to Alain Danielou's Catalog of Recorded Classical and Traditional Indian Music, I was finally able to complete the B side title. Benares is not the composer, but the city in India where Nazir Hossain came from. Danielou calls him "a very good Shahnāī player." Both selections are also accompanied by the Duggi, a small drum from Northern India "with a dry, sharp sound" that is only used to accompany the sanai (a.k.a. shehnai or Shahnāī), an Indian oboe. A Bhairavī is a rāgă or mode that is apt to be played in the morning whereas a Pīlū is an evening rāgă. | |
