Indian sleeves are still woefully underrepresented. https://www.45spaces.com/company-sleeves-78rpms/ The catalog number has a different prefix than the Taj Records on Discogs, and the label design has changed as well. The company name at the bottom of the record, Hindusthan M(usical) Products, Ltd., shows that this record is from the late 1940s at the earliest.



xiphophilos 15th Sep 2019		Based on Alain Danielou's Catalog of Recorded Classical and Traditional Indian Music, Ali Bux (a.k.a. Ali Baksh Jarnail or "the General", 1850-1920) was "one of the great masters of the sārangī"(source) and court musician to the Maharaja of Patiala. The sārangī is a string instrument made of a single block of wood and covered with parchment. It has four main strings made of gut and many sympathetic strings and is played with a bow (a picture can be found on page 15 of the Danielou pdf). A side: instrument: sārangī; mode (raga): bhairavī; accompanied by: tablā. B side: instrument: sārangī; mode (raga): pīlū; accompanied by: tablā.
