 I got an old A4 flatbed scanner last year and immediately went about removing one of the side edges so that records can be placed flat on the glass. The piece left a sticky residue, so I stuck a strip of some nice, thin, waxy paper/card stuff to it. Fits 12" record labels on there just fine.

 I have edited the spindles out of the photos, but unsure how to make them the main photos, if anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated! [Done! Mod.]

 Only once did I have a 78 break when scanning it. But I scan 78 labels at a very high resolution so I can make the necessary adjustments to X-Y ratios. Worked on many an LP, 45 and 78 label in Photoshop for some two decades.

 @Mike Gann - Thank you! I'll bear that in mind for next time, I don't have access to photoshop, so I couldn't edit out the spindle.

@WB I do have a flatbed scanner, however it is not wide enough to fit the 78 on fully. Scanning Promos is okay, as I can press the label slightly into the glass and now worry about it breaking, however I don't dare try this with Shellacs, as that's how they've broken in the past

 I've been scanning records for some two decades. Put them on a flatbed scanner, make necessary color corrections based on Pantone color values, and you're off.

I've also abided by the "Bruce Spizer rule" I learnt from the author of many a book on Beatles LP's and 45's: Crop not only the area outside the label, but also the area of the spindle holes.

 @ James Carson2 Take your records off of the turntable and lay them on a sheet of white paper when you photograph them
