Yes, you're right Whyperion. That whole piano roll industry is something I know nothing about but it must have been pretty big deal back in the '20s. It seems both Weatherford and Waller made piano rolls before establishing themselves on records. Both these tracks on the London 78 were sourced from Q.R.S. piano rolls and the Teddy Weatherford was first issued as a piano roll in August 1926. The Fats Waller track is from around the same time. Q.R.S. was based initially in Chicago I think and they actually had a Q.R.S. record label for awhile too.

I would guess that a Teddy Weatherford piano roll would be most likely to have been cut in USA , simply because of the technology and popularity of the reproducers being quite high in the States ?

Now Teddy Weatherford really was a very interesting person. He was a highly regarded jazz pianist in New Orleans and then Chicago (playing and recording with Louis Armstrong), before shipping out to Asia in the late 1920s. He led jazz bands in Singapore, Manila and Shanghai. He died of cholera in Calcutta during WW2 and his few solo recordings were made in Calcutta and Paris. Heaven knows where this piano roll was made.

A video from a 1947 music roll , maybe the origination behind the B Side ?
