 JLC135 - I see your point, however trying the same process with several other labels was not an issue. Mercury seemed to use the heavier slightly thicker type of shellac. It's also how my scanner is designed. Once I get a new home, I'll upgrade to better equipment

 A sheet of glass of glass between scanner glass and disc MAY work.

 The cracks in the labels are due to my scanner not being a flatbed and me having to hold the labels down slightly, this broke the disc in half, this is due to the type of shellac used by mercury/oriole

I didn’t have this issue with Columbia or HMV discs
