The date Dec. 26, 1957 is from https://topshelfoldies.org/champs.htm: "The record was released December 26, 1957 and in a few weeks radio stations began playing the B-side."

The record is reviewed in Cash Box, February 8, 1958, page 10. That seems to speak more for a mid-January release. I've changed the date accordingly.

Where did we get this release date from? The 45 came out on 15/1/58, and it was almost certainly pressed first before a 78 was pressed.

Based on the matrix numbers, the fact that "Tequila" is an instrumental, and the designation of it as the B Side on this history of "The Champs" (http://topshelfoldies.org/champs.htm), I've exchanged the order of the images so that they correspond to the entry, which had already listed "Tequila" as the B Side.

I am surprised that there is no discussion about whether Tequila ought to be the A side on this entry. Train To Nowhere was a nice enough track and it was numbered Side 1 on those copies that had a side designation, but it never had the legs that Tequila showed. At some point in time Tequila must have established itself as the "de facto" A side, even if it began life as a lowly side 2. Or are we really more interested in what they thought would be the hit?
