Notes

First pressings with "PRICE 75c" indication on labels probably came out between late October and mid December 1923.
Repressings without price indication had artist name spelled "Norfolk Jazz Quartette" and B-side title "Quartette Blues".
"Quartette" version advertised in the March 1924 issue of The Crisis and advertised together with Ma Rainey's first record (probably in the Chicago Defender on February 2, 1924).

Max Vreede notes that Paramount 12066 was first advertised in The Chicago Defender on January 12, 1924. I wonder if that record was prepared for an earlier release, but held back for some reason. Most releases between 12056 and 12078 for which information is shown in his book were first advertised between October and December 1923. The exceptions are 12066, 12067 (Monette Moore) and 12069 (Edna Hicks). The last two were first advertised in the February 2, 1924 edition of The Chicago Defender. Note that 12068 was untraced in Vreede's book (and may still be unknown).

Paramount 12217 is an oddball. I'll look through the Vreede book to see whether other examples of records released with the price notice after February 1924 have been documented.

You're right, cyeaman, and I have edited the notes accordingly. Indeed I noticed myself when inspecting the The Paramount 'Race' Records Series list again yesterday that after Paramount 12057 several more labels with the price indication are depicted: 12064, 12066, 12069, 12070, 12071, 12074 and, as you mentioned, 12077 and 12078.

Most of these can be dated to December 1923. Paramount 12066 by Alberta Hunter, however, has the price note but came out only in February 1924 based on the advertisement in The Crisis. Does Max Vreede's "Paramount 12000/13000 Series" perhaps give an earlier date for it?

Even stranger: There is a considerably higher number on the list with a price indication, Paramount 12217 by the Norfolk Jubilee Quartet (which was the same group), and that one is supposed to be released much later, in August 1924.

I suppose this record could have been released any time between late October 1923 and mid December 1923. Max Vreede states that the highest catalog # with the price indication was Paramount 12076, which was first advertised in the Chicago Defender on December 15. The "Paramount 'Race' Records Series" link shows even higher numbers with the price notice (12077 & 12078), both of which were also advertised in the December 15 issue of The Chicago Defender. cf. Max Vreede, "Paramount 12000/13000 Series".

Based on label information of the original release, we also have to change back the original B-side title and correct the artist name. Based on the price indication there, we have to date the original release to November 1923 at the latest, possibly October 1923 like the same group's record on Paramount 12054 (which was first advertised in the Norfolk Journal-Guide on October 20, 1923 and in the Chicago Defender on November 3, 1923).

Excellent. Based on your information, I've sorted the labels in proper order.

Also uploaded the missing "Quartet" A-side. Against my first guess, these labels with their "Price 75c" indication were also the original labels, as Paramount omitted the price indication on higher numbers than 12057 around November 1923, see e.g. The Paramount 'Race' Records Series.

For this reason the current Feb 1924 release date, based on several Paramount ads, apparently belongs to the "Quartette" reissue only (see The Crisis, March 1924, with "Quartette" spelling).

Version with "Quartet" spelling on B-side title and artist name exists though, see uploaded B-side label.
