Notes

9 1/2 inch

Pseudonym for Elsie Carlisle, as this is even more risqué than the version she recorded under her proper name for Dominion Records. Even the milder version recorded for Dominion was not acceptable to any of the major labels.

N.B.: The name "Filmophone" does not allude to movies, but to the thin, bendy material the records were made from (similar to Durium).

Recorded London, c. November 1931.(source)

Filmophone 143 - images added of first pressing with pseudonymous credit Amy Brunton, plus an image of the B-side of a later pressing (with rim legend). Another early pressing (same number) was issued as by Elsie Carlisle (see link). But which is the original issue? The last pressing (rim legends start with Filmophone 444) has credit "sung by Amy Brunton". The early pressings have credits: 1) "sung by Elsie Carlisle"; 2) "Amy Brunton with Orchestra". Is Carlisle the original credit, subsequently changed into Brunton? Or was there a repressing under Carlisle's name, and after an objection the credit was changed back to Brunton?

Cellulose - which differs from Durium - no cardboard backing. I guess Duriums had shellac surfaces. (Same as Hit Of The Week on the other side of the Atlantic - but Duriums had finer grooves with two tunes on each single-sided disc.) Filmophones are double sided.
