As the R&B chart (Most-Played Juke Box Race Records) in the Billboard issue of Oct 2, 1948 (for week ending September 24) lists the record on #6 as "Three O'Clock Blues", it referred apparently to the Down Town issue (although label and cat# are missing just for this entry), meaning that that one was presumably the primary issue.

Both sides were probably recorded on Fulson's first session in June 1946 for Big Town, one of several labels of Bob Geddins, in Oakland, CA. Geddins leased many of his recordings to Down Beat owner Jack Lauderdale, and in 1947 he lost Lowell Fulson altogether to Lauderdale. Anyway, when "Three O'Clock in the Morning" / "Wild About You, Baby" was released on Down Beat #167 around October 1948 (according to a Billboard ad), also The Original "3 O'Clock Blues" (c/w "I'm Wild About You") on Geddins' newly founded Down Town label (#2002) was advertised*, and these were apparently the same recordings.

"Three O'Clock in the Morning" b/w "Wild About You, Baby" was also reissued in Feb 1952 on Swing Time, Jack Lauderdale's new label (#290).
