78 RPM Record
Notes Acetate of unknown date, maybe radio broadcast from middle to late 1940's A-side is an instrumental of the old traditional "Silver Bell" but tape on label says only "Buddy Monroe on Steel" B-side tape says only "I'm Still in Love With You" but the true title is "Please Don't Leave Me." Fiddler Jesse Ashlock is the composer and Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys recorded it in 1942. The record was acquired from the estate of an old radio programmer at WNOX in Knoxville and I'm guessing these are air shots from the station's Midday Merry-Go-Round Show from the mid to late 1940's. Some pretty big name country artists played on the show before moving up to the Grand Ole Opry. I've found nothing on steel player Buddy Monroe so far but he was pretty solid on "Silver Bell." Images
