Elwin “Timberline” Cross worked for more than 20 years as a DJ for different radio stations in Fresno, CA, first for KYNO (1300 AM) and, starting around 1957, for KEAP (980 AM) (source) (BB 14 Jan 1950).

During WW2, he founded his “Arizona Wranglers.” Some of the original members were Bill Woods and Dave Stogner, who later founded their own bands (source – gets the name of the band wrong; source 2).

Later, Elwin Cross fronted other country bands, “The Texas Boys,” who played at the Sanger Ballroom (BB 25 Mar 1950), “The Lucky Stars,” playing at the Hoedown Hall in Fresno (BB 12 Feb 1955), and the “Country Cousins” (1956).

“Back In Dear Old Oklahoma” was written by Sunstarr owner Cliff Sundin and “Cactus Jack” Cliff Johnson and published by Sunstarr Music: Cliff Sundin Music Publisher in 1944, which probably dates our record here (Worldcat).

I’ve uploaded scans of a copy of this record that I have just found. They lack Elwin Cross’s autograph, but are also free of stickers. In addition, one can read some numbers stamped under the label, including “106/ ALLIED” on the B side.
