See 00104 / 00105 for the first issue of this record, apparently released in 1943 before the end of the recording ban.

As already noted, this record was first mentioned in a Billboard article in the July 15, 1944 issue, page 66. As the article was already written on July 8, we can assume that the record was released not later than June 1944 - but possibly several months earlier, considering that Excelsior had been operating under the radar at least since October 1942.

As also noted, the later Billboard chart listings of "I'm Lost" never indicated the actual catalog number and even the used matrix number was incorrect (2986 instead of 2966). Although "I'm Lost" may have been the original B-side considering the numbers in the wax, it became the chart hit (#4, 14 weeks on the Harlem Hit Parade), and thus Excelsior only used a simplified "No. 105" when they eventually advertised this record as "Now Available In Quantities" in Billboard of March 31, 1945, page 14.

I moved the release date back to 1944 on this one. Excelsior's usage of different cat numbers for each side seems to have confused the folks at Billboard. Their Oct 21 1944 listing mistakenly assigned Capitol 165 to this release, but that was Benny Carter's version of I'm Lost. Then the Nov 4 listing used the (incorrect) matrix number 2986.
