The label surrounded by a silver ring (thus called Ring Label) and listing the Grand Prize Award from the Paris Expo of 1900 dates to between late 1902 and early 1903 (cf. M. Sherman & K. Nauck, "Note The Notes," p. 17).

Based on the catalog number, this record originally appeared in 1901. It was recorded by various artists under the same catalog number, which is why it makes more sense to me to list it here under [no artist listed] than under "Collins and Harlan" even though those two appear on the particular version entered.

More info (not much more) can be found at the Discography of American Historical Recordings (DAHR):
http://adp.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/matrix/detail/2000135700/260-Palm_branches

Since your recording is not by Byron Harlan and Frank Stanley (take nr. 8), but by Arthur Collins and Byron Harlan, I wonder which one of the takes listed in DAHR it is.

The patent note that the bottom lists a Dec. 10, 1901, patent, so it's probably a take recorded later than 1901.
