According to the booklet, the album is copyrighted 1939, with a rather late dedication by conductor Walter Damrosch dated November 24, 1939, so a 1940 release seemed probable anyway. As the album was only listed in the quarterly record list in The Musical Quarterly Vol. 26, No. 2 (Apr., 1940), p. 275, I have changed the release year from 1939 to 1940.

Btw: Victor album P-11, titled Ballads of the American Revoultion and The War of 1812 (with Victor records 26458 to 26462) and included in the same issue of The Musical Quarterly, is listed in John R. Bolig's Victor 25000, 26000, 27000 Series book as released in March 1940 (p. 190, 191).

These belong to the first African recordings that were actually released on record. Although the album came out in 1939, ethnomusicologist Laura Boulton made the recordings apparently in 1934, as the Field Museum-Straus expedition (that traveled 12,900 km from Dakar to Cameroon via Nigeria) took place in that year.

I can't upload record labels but small label images can be seen on Discogs.

The complete recordings are available for listening on the Internet Archive.

The 12-page album booklet was reproduced for a later LP issue on Folkways (FW 8852) and can be downloaded from https://folkways-media.si.edu/liner_notes/folkways/FW08852.pdf
