In 1958 Phillips mailed out a handful of this 78-only shellac release pressed on 10-inch vinyl with a black and white Phillips promo label. (Phillips were someway behind their rivals in making the switch to vinyl).
Title on the Phillips promo was misspelled Bob-A-Lena! Will upload when I can find my copy!

I heard this on the radio in 1958 - probably the Jack Jackson show on Radio Luxembourg (about the only place to hear decent music back then). It was the wildest thing I'd ever heard so I had to have it. My local record shop had never heard of it so had to place a special order. When it arrived I was not disappointed by it but in the 80's when I had no means of playing 78's I swapped it for a Carl Perkins album. Another one of life's great mistakes!
Well at least I now have the songs on the Rockin Ronnie EP but it's not quite the same!

I can't believe it got played over here. As you can see I'm a fan. There is a rumour that it was also issued on a UK jukebox 45 or as a demo only 45. But no one has ever seen a copy?

Yes I heard it on AFN back then and it actually turned up when I ordered it.

doberman Did you hear Bop-A-Lena or Aint I'm A Dog on the radio back in 1958? cos i cant imagine it got much if any airplay at the time. I certainly dont remember hearing it back then.

I bought this record in July 1958. Sold it in 1986 for £110 . Got it for the slow rocker 'Aint I'm a Dog' Wish I still had it.
