| | The Basie number seems to be from a short film made by Universal in August 1943:
Count Basie: Swingin' the Blues, 1936-1950
Not sure if that song was ever released on record.
The master for the Ted Heath track on Decca is DRX.25203. |

| | Yes, probably the catalogue number of the record which was duplicated... |

| | I am sure your correction, Fokeman, to The Master Sound System is correct. If this is an acetate, that means the catalog nr. is also suspect. |

| | The Master Sound System label was also responsible for doing one-off recordings on 7" See here...
So I will change this to The Master Sound System without the s! |

| | I would hazard a guess that this is actually a disc cut by The Master Sound System, not Systems - See here for another with images...

I still wonder if this is a privately pressed acetate.
You're bang on Xiphophilos! |

| | The items listed under this label certainly have the feel of private recordings. They could be studio made acetates, or possibly even home recording blanks with dubs from other records or off the air. The fact that the WorldCat item is a VHS tape also suggests the probability that this Basie/Delta Rhythm Boys track is from a film source. I would think Sheridan would have known about any full-scale movie the Basie band participated in, but possibly a Soundie might have slipped through the cracks? |

| | I found one entry for a video tape on WorldCat that at least combines Count Basie, the Delta Rhythm Boys, and "Someone's Rocking My Dream Boat".
That song, "Someone's Been Rocking My Dream Boat", was copyrighted in 1937 by Leon Rene, Otis Rene, and Emerson Scott (source). So I've deleted the date 1926, and I also changed the Delia to the Delta Rhythm Boys.
I still wonder if this is a privately pressed acetate. |

| | I am not familiar with a British label named Master Sound Systems; MG Thomas mentions that they produced records for the Danceland label, but that's it (http://www.mgthomas.co.uk/Records/labelindex-D.htm). |

| | If the Basie involved here is the Basie (i.e. Count Basie), this recording would appear to be a previously undocumented piece of Basie-ana. At least it does not seem to appear in Chris Sheridan's "Count Basie: A Bio-Discography", the most comprehensive Basie discography I know of. All the joint appearances of Basie and the Delta Rhythm Boys that are listed in Sheridan seem to come from AFRS transcriptions, which usually means they originate in broadcast programming. I'm speculating that this track is of similar nature. It likely dates to 1937 or later, however. Per Sheridan, Basie's debut recordings were made in 1929 with the Bennie Moten band. |
