| | Strawberry_Lynn it was 1963 when Decca stopped pressing 78's. RCA had until that point labelled their 45rpms with a serial number beginning "45-", after the 78's stopped being pressed by Decca they dropped the "45-" from the serial number as there was no need to differentiate. Not quite sure why RCA didn't do this before as they'd dropped the 78's Decca had pressed for them three years earlier. |

| | I think Strawberry_Lynn was referring to "Tell Me Why/Puppet On A String", rather than the songs listed on this entry! I haven't heard them either! |

| | i've come across a number of Elvis 78s made in South Africa in recent years here in ZW. I suspect they didn't manufacture them in ZW at the time but merely imported from SA. At least 3 of them broke in transit to Europe where I had sent them! :( |

| | Elvis' version of One Night Of Sin was released as an extra track on the CD single (and 10") when a bunch of his singles stuff was re-released a few years ago... |

| | Strawberry - 'One night' is a version of Smiley Lewis's song issued in UK on London HLU 8312 in 1956. Elvis's version is a considerably cleaned up version of Smiley's who had 'One night of sin is what I'm now paying for', not exactly pc in 1959 for Elvis, who had enough grief with his hips earlier in his career, Parker would have, I'm sure, put the kybosh on the original lyric to keep 'His boy' sweet with the authorities. |

| | No surprise to learn of the 78RPM release of "It's Now Or Never" in South Africa, I believe it was round about 1965 when the last pop 78 left the pressing plant. So everything up to RCA 1489 "Tell Me Why/Puppet On A String" might be available out there on shellac.
Those two tracks, incidentally, are two Elvis songs that I've never heard before. They're not covers previously recorded by The Beatles/Sandie Shaw, are they? Ha ha! |

| | A Mess of blues RCA 1194 78rpm definately exists, (copies on popsike), both uk and south african. There is a south african "It's Now Or Never" on popsike but no uk equivalent. |

| | The way that I understand it, "A Mess Of Blues" was the last Elvis record issued on 78 RPM, with speculation that there might be copies of "It's Now Or Never" |

| | Interestingly, the last 78 RPM Elvis entry in Britain was also the last commercially-issued 78 RPM Elvis release on U.S. RCA Victor (cat. #20-7410). |
