Here is a Canadian record on the Crown label, made in Lachine, Montreal, Canada, of a pair of tracks issued in the US on Domino. The shellac is also brown, and the label graphics look quite similar to those on the above Canadian Domino.
I'm still unclear on whether the Crown Record Co. was Compo's precursor, or whether it used the Lachine address on everything they made, but all the Compo labels also said "Lachine, Montreal, Canada." Compo began to press all Decca and related content for Canada, and lasted up until its absorption by MCA, then it became an MCA plant.
Yes, you're right. I guess the est. could have been a typo on my part. If any out there have better info about a release date, please make a correction.
btw...The name Compo, sounds familiar. Didn't Starr-Gennett come from Ontario ? I think Decca had a branch in Canada too. I'll have to check on this because that name Compo, I know I saw it on something before. I'll have to check my Deccas. I'll post a new record with Compo as a stamper if/when I find it.
I know 1921 is an estimate, but why 1921? Based on Ted Staunton's label site, Domino, New York, was only launched in 1924 and folded in 1933.(source).
Somehow, there was also a Domino located in Montreal, Canada, which must have had some link to the New York Domino because your record was distributed by the New York Domino, but stamped in Canada. A record on Ted's site on the Canadian label looks much like this one, except it says "New Process": http://www.tedstaunton.com/labels/1930_1939/pages/Domino/domino.html
