Hi, gegregor. I don't own any 78 rpm records myself, and I'm actually not an expert in buying or selling these. Anyway you can find prices of records auctioned on the web on http://www.popsike.com/ and some other sites.
It seems, however, that the Jazz At The Philharmonic album sets were not that rare. You could get some of the later sets for about 20 EUR / 28 USD, and here, for example, was an auction for five volumes (including yours) in 2009 with an end price of EUR 56 / USD 77.
Hello, I am new to the world of collectable albums and was looking for information on this album collection, Jazz at the Philharmonic. I have inherited this from my father and it is complete and seems to be in good condition and wondering where I would get an appraisal value of this item and several other collections from the same time era?
Independently, I propose that we allocate all JATP recordings to artist Jazz At The Philharmonic, like most discographies do, see e.g. http://microgroove.jp/mercury/11000Series.shtml, not to Various Artists.
Like JATP Vol. 6 and 7, this album set was apparently first released on Norman Granz' own Clef label, founded in 1947 and discontinued soon (and revived in 1953). Clef album number should be 102 (I haven't seen one yet, but Vol. 6 and Vol. 7 were Clef albums 100 and 101), with Clef records number 109 (?), 110 and 111, possibly 12" records with only four sides of "Perdido".
"Perdido" was also released on Mercury 11011: Part 1 (matrix 1884) c/w Part 2 (matrix 1885). This one was reviewed as a single in Billboard of Sep 13, 1952 although the catalog number suggests a similar release date as the album set. The same coupling is reported to be issued also on Mercury 8904 but I haven't found a confirmation of an actual copy.
