xiphophilos 19th Sep 2015		I've seen the "Hauptmann von Köpenick" with Heinz Rühmann at least twice, but I am sorry to say that I don't remember the Guard scene. Got to watch it again. Here's the real deal from 1910 (Kaiser's Birthday Parade):



RobertG 17th Sep 2015		Thanks for the link to the biography of A. Becker. (Oo, watch the '56 Hauptmann von Köpenick for an impression of the Guard.) That video is indeed the merry coppersmith of this record. This Zonophone however does not contain the 'Grammophon Aufnahme' intro voice. Maybe that's the 1648x vs 1648h matrix.



xiphophilos 17th Sep 2015		For those of you who read German this biography of the K(öni)gl(icher) Kapellmeister Adolf Becker, the long-time director of the Kaiser-Franz-Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 2, may be of interest: http://grammophon-platten.de/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?32935. The text explains that brass orchestras were easier to record with the pre-1910 technology than, e.g., string orchestras, and so military band like those of John Philip Sousa or Adolf Becker became huge international record stars, playing everything from marches to folk songs and popular hits. The collectors on the grammophon-platten.de forum, by the way, date this record to 1903.
