first published year date is^W was wrong and should^W has been corrected to 1942

this first printing in h/cvr by george harrap & co. ltd., london in 1942 is ttbomk the first edition.

it would have been distributed by them within the british empire - quite possibly excluding canada - probably including the west indies, but certainly to gibraltar, malta, egypt, anglo-egyptian sudan, kenya, uganda, tanganyika, northern & southern rhodesia, nyasaland, south africa, aden, india, australia & new zealand by sea, and - at least in theory - also to british guyana, british honduras, st. helena, montserrat, the falkland islands, and south georgia; and further, to territories outwith north america (possibly including canada) and the british empire in competition with any copies of the licenced doubleday doran h/cvr edition to which that estimable merkin publishing company bothered to export such wares, insofar as these might be, or were unoccupied by forces of, the axis powers...

in the granada tv reference library c.1974
last borrowing date-stamped 23/jan/1996
originally lent ''subject to early recall'' which meant that the loan was for one week, rather than the usual two weeks, and could not be renewed (though the book could be reserved, and borrowed again, once those ahead in the reservation queue had borrowed and returned it).
later provided on monthly loan, perhaps to branch libraries, mobile (travelling) libraries, etc.
stamped withdrawn from lancashire libraries, but this not dated.
