annaloog 11th Aug 2022 | | BookJohn Farr - 100 Greatest Train Movies (2010) | Considering the "Display Until" date, this looks more like a magazine, than a book.
annaloog 4th Aug 2022 | | BookPhilip José Farmer - The Unreasoning Mask (1983) | Unfortunately for 16-digit bar code numbers, the data entry form truncates numbers at 13 digits ... presumably, the last 5 digits, which identify the book, are '05551'. The complete number *could be* entered into Notes, esp. absent a back cover image.
annaloog 29th Jul 2022 | | BookAlec Waugh - Island In The Sun (1959) | This is the only paperback book I've seen whose binding has been reinforced with string.
annaloog 24th Jul 2022 | | BookIan Fleming - Doctor No (1959) | You're a braver man than I, gunga 23 .... ; ) Thanks!
annaloog 24th Jul 2022 | | BookIan Fleming - Doctor No (1959) | Thanks, the reason I asked, Phillips illustrated two different Signet covers for Casino Royale. A comment on flickr suggests that this cover is also by Phillips, but sign-in is required to view the image, so I can't be certain.
annaloog 24th Jul 2022 | | BookIan Fleming - Doctor No (1959) | Barye Phillips cover? I don't see a signature.
annaloog 22nd Jul 2022 | | BookJohn Pearson - James Bond: The Authorized Biography (1975) | Thanks, 23skidoo, they all linked, "authorised" or not.
annaloog 22nd Jul 2022 | | BookWilliam Boyd - Solo (2014) | I'll take your word for it. BTW, how does this compare with the other post-Fleming 007 novels? I've read only a few: I liked Amis/Markham's "Colonel Sun" the best of the lot; I found Gardner's efforts mediocre at best, although they provided titles for the later films.
annaloog 21st Jul 2022 | | BookWilliam Boyd - Solo (2014) | IMO, a different ISBN = a different edition, despite similarities in cover graphics.
annaloog 21st Jul 2022 | | BookFredric Brown - Martians, Go Home (1955) | No dust jacket with my (thrift shop) copy.
annaloog 21st Jul 2022 | | BookWilliam Boyd - Solo (2014) | Can you discern the bar code number? If so, does it differ from the other edition?
annaloog 21st Jul 2022 | | BookAldous Huxley - Crome Yellow (1955) | I had to buy (and read) a copy of this, a much more recent edition needles to say, for a college history course ... something to do with the British class system. What has stuck with me all these years, though, as I recall, was Huxley's statement concerning black ladders.
annaloog 19th Jul 2022 | | BookJohn Pearson - James Bond: The Authorized Biography (1975) | Yes, I noticed the letter "O" used in place of numeral "0" (zero) ... perhaps from the "double O" designation for licence to kill? I'd think that the "of OO7" bit should be removed from the title.
BTW, I mistook the linked edition as Arrow, when the publisher is clearly Century ... one of those senior moment lapses?
annaloog 19th Jul 2022 | | BookJohn Pearson - James Bond: The Authorized Biography (1975) | There is also an Arrow edition, not currently linked to this due, presumably, to differences in the title. Oddly, "Authorized" here follows the USA spelling.
annaloog 13th Jul 2022 | | BookEduard Bass - Zirkus Humberto (1988) | I have changed the English title to "Circus Humberto", to link this edition with the Romanian.
annaloog 11th Jul 2022 | | BookIan Fleming - Goldfinger (1964) | Images #3027949 - 3027952 are from a later (1972?) edition ... decimal currency and ISBN were not in use in 1964 ... and should have their own entry.
mod edit: images moved to Pan 0 330 10238 9
annaloog 11th Jul 2022 | | BookIan Fleming - On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1964) | Images #3027942 - 3027945 have been moved to nc713455uk (ISBN match).
annaloog 10th Jul 2022 | | BookTim Powers - Expiration Date | Library of Congress and US copyright dates are both 1996. I don't know from what source your info. comes ... I suspect it is in error.
annaloog 8th Jul 2022 | | BookA. Merritt - The Metal Monster (1972) | Avon V2422, 5th printing, Feb 1972, cover images. Artist uncredited, but the same illustration was used for a previous edition (Avon S231).
annaloog 8th Jul 2022 | | BookA. Merritt - Seven Footprints To Satan (1976) | ISBN 0-380-00690-1, as printed on the copyright page, differs from the number on the spine (380-28209-125) and presumably refers to an earlier edition/printing.
annaloog 29th Jun 2022 | | BookGirolamo Bertolio - Viaggio da Strasburgo a Colonia (1836) | The oldest book in my collection, some 180+ years old, had already suffered quite a bit of wear and damage to the covers, and foxing on the pages, before I exchanged my 50c for it way back in 1969 or '70.
The preface to the reader ('lettore'), roughly translated, begins, "This booklet, which I present to you, a cultured and courteous reader, is extracted from the wanderings of an artist, an anonymous work that is being published in Paris with great typographic luxury together with the most delicious engravings...." Any engravings, however, are conspicuous by their absence (aside from the 'Amenitâ' page).
Judging from internet search hits, copies of this book seem to be not too uncommon, with asking prices averaging about US$70.

annaloog 29th Jun 2022 | | BookEd Lacy - The Big Bust (1969) | Thanks, fixed.
annaloog 29th Jun 2022 | | BookEd Lacy - The Big Bust (1969) | Date year = 1969?
annaloog 24th Jun 2022 | | BookPhilip K. Dick - The Ganymede Takeover (1980) | Initials "PE" on the back cover presumably refer to the artist, Peter Elson.
annaloog 23rd Jun 2022 | | BookWilkie Collins - The Moonstone (1948) | Issued with a dust jacket (judging from online images), but my $1.29 thrift shop copy doesn't have it.
annaloog 22nd Jun 2022 | | BookTim Heald - Deadline (1981) | The cover scan proved 'interesting': the figure of the man is printed in a deep red metallic ink, which my scanner rendered as black. With a bit of tweaking in gimp, I've managed a semblance of the red tint while keeping the other black areas black.
As s side note, I don't see this listed as a TV series.
annaloog 21st Jun 2022 | | BookWilliam Russell - A Wind Is Rising (1961) | Judging from an internet search, there were several authors named 'William Russell', including an 18th C. Scotsman and two 19th C. English writers (among others), so some disambiguation may be needed at some point.
annaloog 16th Jun 2022 | | BookJohn Carnell - New Writings In SF 7 (1971) | Your original note was left unchanged when the duplicate was merged. The printing history as listed on the Bantam (first) edition copyright page was added (as mentioned in my previous comment), as was the list of stories from the contents page. The SBN is printed on the spine. I am still at a loss to understand what you find fault with. <insert scratches head emoji>
annaloog 16th Jun 2022 | | BookRichard Brautigan - Revenge Of The Lawn (1971) | Which printing is this? I think I have a copy somewhere which (IIRC) I was inspired to buy after reading a review in Rolling Stone.
