ppint. 31st Jan 2023 | | BookOrrie Hitt - Mail Order Sex (1962) | midwood was well known as a sleaze publisher/imprint: the actual sex acts content & detail may be quite low by later standards (if that's quite the just word), but the salaciousness was intended, as it is what these books were bought for.
the wikipedia article notes that all of this author's novels published before 1964 are in the public domain; so there'd likely be no need to pay ''collectors' prices'' to sample the quality of the fiction (or possibly the lack thereof) if you look around online.

ppint. 31st Jan 2023 | | BookDavid Derek Stacton - The Power Gods (1958) | Review''nevada's equivalent of our own (by comparison) rather disarmingly decent and dandy-ish teddy-boys are motor-bicycle-borne adolescent hoodlums who, in this book, are led by a tiger of a golden-haired girl into armed robbery and a killing or so. extremely exciting, with something of a documentary quality about its presentation of life in the western-desert jet-set.''
- the spectator 26/12/1958
- this appears to be a crime & violence (with a little bit of sex) ''gangsploitation'' novel

ppint. 31st Jan 2023 | | BookFredric Brown - Martians, Go Home (1955) | this appears to be the 12/1955 merkin science fiction book club edition, as it differs in pagination from the first and does not declare ''first edition'' on the indica page.

(there is an oddity reported regarding the actual pagination of the first edition, which apparently includes two more unnumbered title (etc.) pp. in the accounting than are actually present (possibly arising from including the two sides of the front fly endpaper), giving the impression that there are 194pp. - or even 196pp, if the two sides of the rear fly endpaper be included for consistency.)

ppint. 30th Jan 2023 | | BookDavid McDaniel - The Arsenal Out Of Time (1967) | liked by then-junior ace books editor terry carr, but disliked by senior editor don wollheim, the ms. was rejected by ace books in 1965.
after the major success of his first man from uncle novel, ''the dagger affair'' (ace 1965) and the success of his second such, ''the vampire affair'' (ace 1966), he was invited to re-submit it, and it was published after being shortened by about 2k words: the cut scene, a tuckerisation of one of his friends, appeared in the fanzine, the best of apa-L no. 3 ed. lee gold (1972).
david mcdaniel's last, unpublished, man from uncle novel, ''the final affair'' was commisioned to appear as the man from uncle novel #24 (ace mmpb numbering sequence), but wasn't completed until after the merkin t.v. network ended the series, and ace books was no longer interested in it;
however, it was widely circulated in handwritten copies within man from uncle fandom, and later made available as a .pdf at http://www.spywise.net/pdf/jan_10/TheFinalAffair.pdf
this may still be available via the waybackmachine.
