ppint. 26th Mar 2024 | | BookJohn Glasby - The Mulberry Project (1957) | category "thriller" is wrong and should^W has been deleted
"thriller" is/was a wholesalers' and publishers' fiction category; this is a non-sensationally-written non-fiction book that would ideally be sub-categorised "history" and "warfare" or "war" (or vv.) - not a thriller in any normal sense, though a popularisation of the nf subjectmatter, not full of the finer technical detail.

|
ppint. 25th Mar 2024 | | BookJohn Glasby - The Mulberry Project (1957) | the story of the mulberry harbours is the story of the realisation of fact that the need for the importation of supplies and reinforcements after the initial allied invasion of normandy at a rate faster than the wehrmacht could move its supplies, replacements and armour thither could not be met by storming an existing port or ports - the dieppe raid demonstrated the impracticalities of attempting this, all too-bloodily - and the audacious answer to the problem devised, built and put into practice by the british army engineers and the shipbuilders of the uk, ably aided by the royal navy.
this is not fiction; it is non-fiction.
