scrough ● 24th May 2023		Book John R. Bennett - Voices Of The Past Volume 11 (1977)	I learned of this book around 15 years ago, but never found a copy for sale anywhere. But last week on ebay two came up for sale from different sellers!
scrough ● 11th May 2020		Book Terry Jones - The Lady And The Squire (2002)	Review This book was read by my wife to our 9 year old granddaughter as a bedtime story in Covid lockdown using WhatsApp, with two or three chapters most nights. My wife had previously read the first book in the trilogy 'The Knight And The Squire', so when she finished this book tonight, we were quite prepared for my granddaughter to ask for something different, rather than the final book of the trilogy. scrough ● 2nd May 2020		Book Terry Jones - The Knight And The Squire (1997)	Review Bought in a charity shop for £1 two years ago, I was saving this for a visit by our granddaughter then aged 7. But with the current Covid 19 lockdown it has proved very useful, as my wife has been reading it as a bedtime story via Whatsapp video calls. With 50 chapters, and two or three chapters per night, it has given our granddaughter a lot of pleasure over about three weeks. Our granddaughter's review (now aged nearly 10) was: It was VERY good! I've now got the second and third books in the trilogy, and she is half way through the second with no loss of enthusiasm. scrough ● 9th Sep 2018		Book Walter L. Welch - From Tinfoil To Stereo (1994)	Rated 4/10 I'd seriously advise against anybody buying the 3rd edition (1994) of this book. I got it based on things I'd read suggesting it was a comprehensive review of the recorded music industry 'from tinfoil to stereo'. It wasn't. So I got a copy of the 2nd edition (1976) and found that all the later chapters had been removed in the 3rd edition. I've posted images of the contents pages from both editions so you can see how much more the 2nd edition contained. This 3rd edition may be more up to date in light of more recent findings, but it is totally Edison-centric and written entirely for the American market, ignoring Europe almost completely. 5 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?

scrough ● 5th Oct 2015		Book C. J. J. Berry - First Steps In Winemaking (1981)	It has stepped straight out of the 60s, Nick. My Dad made wine and beer back then, and that book was 'the winemakers bible'. The beer bible was 'Brewing Beers like Those You Buy' by Ken Shales.
scrough ● 30th Sep 2015		Book Frederick J. Furnivall - Bishop Percy's Folio Manuscript (1868)	Percy's Reliques had been published about 100 years before, and heavily censored/edited by Bishop Percy. No tunes, just verse. This book was part of a set of four (see back cover) which printed the manuscripts without censoring/editing.

scrough ● 27th Sep 2015		Book Jean Ritchie - The Dulcimer Book	It was published in the USA in 1963. I think we got it as an 'import',so maybe the 1974 is the 'International' date.

I could have sworn our copy was older, as I made a dulcimer for my wife in 1970 ... but can I find the book now?? The plans were in Woodworker magazine in late 1970. Jean died earlier this year. Meantime here's another Dulcimer Book from 1970.

scrough ● 25th Sep 2015		Book F. W. Gaisberg - Music On Record (1946)	OK Terry, I agree. But what if you don't have a dust jacket (and I nicked this image so we shouldn't really use it!)? Should the title page be the main image until a dust jacket turns up?

scrough ● 24th Sep 2015		Book F. W. Gaisberg - Music On Record (1946)	Many of the pre-1950s music related books I have are like this. Maybe they've lost their dust jackets, but that's how most of these covers are - plain cloth. PS Found image of dust jacket!
scrough ● 24th Sep 2015		Book William Chappell - Popular Music Of The Olden Time; Volume 1 (1855)	The sources are manuscripts and ballad sheets, rather than people (although he credits various collections). E.g For 'Row well, Ye Mariners' he quotes ballad sheets from 1565 for the words, and Thomas Robinson's Schoole of Musick (1603) and every edition of The Dancing Master from 1651 (the first) to 1725 (18th) for the tune. (p.112) Purchased at a junk shop in Bath for 50p in 1975. Have a peep at the download link.
