scrough ● 24th Sep 2015		The sources are manuscripts and ballad sheets, rather than people (although he credits various collections). E.g For 'Row well, Ye Mariners' he quotes ballad sheets from 1565 for the words, and Thomas Robinson's Schoole of Musick (1603) and every edition of The Dancing Master from 1651 (the first) to 1725 (18th) for the tune. (p.112) Purchased at a junk shop in Bath for 50p in 1975. Have a peep at the download link.
