Originally published in 1898 as a magazine serial as a sequel to an unauthorized rewritten version of H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds titled Fighters from Mars. The 2010 edition more directly calls it a sequel to The War of the Worlds itself. The 2010 edition also includes the credit line, possibly from the original, "Written in collaboration with [Thomas] Edison", however other sources such as Wikipedia - and the book's introduction and afterword - indicate that Edison, other than appearing in fictionalized form as the story's protagonist, was not involved in its creation and objected to any suggestion that he was a collaborator on the book.

This edition includes an introduction and afterword by Robert Godwin discussing the history of the novel, as well as original illustrations and content from the original 1898 magazine publication. 272 pages.
