2nd revised edition of a reference work first published as "Recording Sessions 1954-1974". Front cover gives title as "Elvis Recording Sessions"; title page only "Recording Sessions" (and this title is used by OCLC, which lists an LCC classification, not a DDC) but copyright page and spine give full title.

According to the introduction, the book was nearing completion when Presley died, making it one of the first works about Elvis to be published after his death. A later edition, in 1985, is titled Elvis Recording Sessions.

Co-author Ernst Jorgensen would later compile numerous other Presley recording session and discography books, and work with RCA on compiling recordings by the singer.
