23skidoo 4th Nov 2020		Notable as the novel that introduced the character of Prof. Bernice "Benny" Summerfield, who was promoted as the first original-to-literature companion of the Doctor's. Summerfield would go on to become one of the longest-serving companions in the franchise's history, appearing in dozens of New Adventures novels, and later taking over the NA series as lead when Virgin Publishing lost the rights to the Doctor in 1997 (but kept the rights to Benny). In the 2000s, the character started a new life as the focus of a long-running series of audio dramas and novels from Big Finish Productions and in 2015 made a crossover into the BBC Books Doctor Who novels. The TV character of Prof. River Song, introduced in 2008, bears quite a resemblance to Benny though it's been maintained that this is coincidence.
