 restores text cut (from 5, 6, 7/1959 (8, 11, 12/1959 uk) astounding science fiction magazine serialised version) when this novel was first published in book form, as "the genetic general", q.v.

 this sphere books edition should be unlinked or delinked from the daw books 1976 mmpb of the same title: it is a considerably different book and a retitling of the 1960 abridgment published as half an ace double under the title of "the genetic general"

after de- or un-linking, the first published date of the sphere books uk p/b should be corrected to 1960.

the daw books 1976 mmpb was the first book publication restoring the cuts made for publication as half an ace double, and sphere books uk p/bs follow the considerably abridged text.

 first sphere books printing 1975, possibly on same isbn. with same tony roberts cover art and same cover price, so consult indica on reverse of title page to determine which you hold.

n.b. this edition published by sphere books antedates the publication by daw books, inc. in mmpb in 1976 of the edition restoring cuts made for publication as "the genetic general" as half an ace double in 1960: presumably all sphere books printings follow the abridged text, as their pagination is not reported as altering.
