ppint. 30th Aug 2018		digest format p/b, being printed upon the same presses as those used for galaxy magazine cover art by ed emshwiller (signed emsh) cover price 35¢ 128pp. (i've no note of having chcked whether this included the covers) date is an interpretation of indicia information and this edition may actually have been published in 1954. anc = american news corporation, galaxy's first distributors - for five years, 'til 1955. (frederik pohl's autobiography, "the way the future was" (1978), q.v. covers this and an awful lot more; recommended.), who created avon books to be their mmpb line in competition with pocket books. who sued anc over this alleged copying of what they claimed was their mmpb line's unique look and feel, including use of the red edge-stain. (pocket books lost on most counts, but avon books - and, implicitly, other mmpb publishers - had to cease using the red edge-stainer on their books: the variety in the different publishers' distinctively-coloured mmpb lines rapidly proliferated into just about all colo[u]rs of the rainbow.

ppint. 8th Apr 2018		avon books near-identical first printings sharing merkin-printed covers and hence also cat#, cover art (signed "ak" but not sfaiaa further identified) cover price 35¢ 192pp. including titles, indicia etc, end pp. refer to indicia to see if carcass of the copy held was merkin- or canadadian- printed. no date other than the original hardcover publication date of 1952 given in indica: lloyd currey and donald h. tuck both give these two first avon books mmpb printings as being published in 1958, which fits avon books' cat# sequence correctly.
