ppint. 27th Jan 2019		first edition published 9/1971 in hardcover by charles scribner's sons, inc. © 1971 keith laumer first mmpb editions/printings sharing merkin-printed covers, and hence also cat# UQ1021, cover art by (frank) kelly freas (credited and signed with his monogram) near-meaningless daw books collectors number 21 cover price 95¢ 160pp. including titles, indica etc; end pp. advertising refer to indica to see if carcass of copy held was canadadian- or merkin- printed, canadadian bearing statement of distribution by new american library of canada ltd.as per all separate canadadian daw printings until unified editions. no priority established nor liable to be, no statement of publication date nor printing date. first printing month and year date from indica of sixth daw books printing, also given by jaffery. 6/1975 UY1174 canadadian second and merkin third printings bear new cover art by michael whelan, mistakenly credited to freas but signed by whelan, cover price $1.25, daw books collectors number is dropped. merkin third printing indica printing number-string 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 (daw books, inc./nal inc. retrospectively accounted their simultaneous two first daw editions/printings separately, whilst daw/nal canada ltd. did not: hence difference in numbering.) 9/1977's two cat# UW1332, isbn 0879973323, $1.50 printings numbered fifth (merkin) & sixth (canadadian), as canadadian second printing retrospectively accounted as the fourth printing, bear same cover art as first printings, cropped to fit into much smaller space, to fit bordered cover re-design with much bolder, larger typography in wide border above. (1986 mmpb is published by baen books, q.v.)

ppint. 9th Mar 2021		simultaneous fifth and sixth daw books printings sharing merkin-printed covers cover art by (frank) kelly freas (reverting to that on first daw mmpb printings, cropped and then blown up to fit now boxed cover design) cover price $1.50 160pp. including titles, indica etc, end pp. advertising refer to indica printing history number line, etc, to see which printing is held no priority established in date, but canadian printing intended for distribution north of the parallel is numbered 6 7 8 9 10 11, i.e. sixth printing, merkin printing for general distribution fifth printing (this comment is from another edition of this book)

ppint. 27th Jan 2019		date of this edition is^W was wrong and should^W has been corrected to 6/1975. it's either the third merkin, or the second canadadian printing (these were simultaneous); it is not either of the two 9/1972 first printings, as they were 95¢ and cat#ed UQ1021.
