23skidoo 26th Aug 2020		@ppint. The experience with The Starlost TV series is why Ellison used the Cordwainer Bird credit instead of his own name. Bova took his experience on the series as scientific advisor to write Starcrossed, but sources such as q.v. and I believe at least one article by Ellison confirm that Bova's novel was inspired by the TV show. (''cordwainer bird'' is/was harlan ellison's screenwriters guild-registered pseudonym which he was thus able to insist be used upon film & t.v. productions as a warning to people that the studios concerned had wrecked his work so far that he did not want his own name associated with the released mess. for further elucidation, ''somehow, i don't think we're in kansas, toto'' (nf) harlan ellison's afterword in ''phoenix without ashes'' edward bryant, harlan ellison(1975), q.v. may help provide you some context for the inspiration of this novel - but n.b. ''the starcrossed'' is entirely ben bova's work. - ppint.) cover art by chris moore (credited, retained from magnum first uk p/b) cover price £1.95 (bears no overseas territories prices) 224pp. including titles, indica, dedication etc; 1 blank end p.
