ppint. 3rd Jun 2020		new american library signet books mmpb one of the two in this simultaneous printing; the third merkin printing, but accounted fourth to allow the re-accounting of the first canadian-carcassed printing (one of the two D2549 printings) as the third signet printing over-all; near-identical with the second canadian printing, sharing cat#, merkin-printed covers: this would subsequently be accounted the fifth signet printing over-all. . . new american library got their knickers into quite a twist, trying to reconcile two or three mutually exclusive accounting methods for merkin & canadadian carcass printings of signet and of daw mmpbs in these mmpb printing histories... so the next wholly merkin-printed printing was accounted the sixth printing, though it was the fourth wholly merkin-printed mmpb intended for general distribution cover art unsigned, uncredited cover price 75¢ 160pp. including titles, indicia etc, end pp. advertising refer to indicia to see if carcass of copy held was canadadian- or merkin- printed no priority established: canadian-carcassed copies indicia states second printing, april, 1972 (this comment is from another edition of this book)



ppint. 30th Aug 2018		signet books imprint mmpb near-identical second printings° sharing merkin-printed covers, and hence also cat# and cover art by lambert (signed, uncredited; it's been suggested this is probably saul lambert) cover price 50¢ 160pp. including titles, indicia etc. refer to indicia to see if carcass of copy held was canadadian- or merkin- printed. no priority established nor liable to be °. the merkin printing is accounted the second signet books printing, as both the earlier printings are accounted the first printing, but the canadadian for no known reason states this to be the first printing. which gives rise to further confusion in the following canadadian-carcassed printing, 4/72 cat# T4964, whose indicia announces it to be the second printing, which it is not. at least one merkin printing of T4964 states it to be the fourth printing, which may well be correct - if all the canadadian printings are ignored. . . all of these from T4964 employ the same unidentified cover art, through the declared sixth and seventh printings: 1973(?) Q5440 95¢, and 1975-6 Y6977 $1.25 in the early eighties, signet "doubled" this with his collection, "galactic cluster", q.v. (this comment is from another edition of this book)



ppint. 30th Aug 2018		signet books imprint mmpb first printing, first p/b edition cover art by paul lehr (signed "lehr") cover price 35¢ 160pp. including titles, indicia etc. fix-up or collection of the ''pantropy'' series - three, four or five novellas or novelettes, depending on your points of view, and a short story; the section entitled "surface tension" considerably changed from the magazine-published story, not least by the inclusion of "sunken universe", previously earlier published in super science stories 5/1942, vol.3 no.4; 11/1950, vol.7 no.3; and uk no.3, 4/1951 (thrice? twice, once and in the bre, i could understand. . .), as by "arthur merlyn".
