ppint. 5th May 2023		american news company (anc) avon book company new avon library p/b first printings° an avon mystery cover art unsigned, uncredited colour artwork interior b+w illustrations (woodcuts) by howard simon (unsigned, possibly credited) cover price (none; newsstand p/bs were presumed to be 25¢ unless elsewise stated) 320pp. including titles, indicia, b+w illustrations etc., end pp. advertising ° - there were five near-identical printings of the book 1942-1945 according to the hearst corporation avon books mmpb ninth printing's indicia publishing history; it is not stated that this includes or excludes the avon monthly murder digest (iiuc) p/b edition. the signal differences between the printings are the rising number in the listing of other titles in the avon books series in the end advertising pp. i do not know whether the number of b+w illustrations from howard simon's woodcuts is the same in all five printings, nor that the extent of the edition was maintained (this comment is from another edition of this book)
