ppint. 27th Jan 2019		near-identical editions/printings sharing merkin-printed covers, and hence also cat#, cover art by jack gaughan (credited and signed, originally for & on the 1978 athaneum h/cvr d-j) b+w frontispiece by jack gaughan (signed with his jg monogram) near-meaningless daw books collectors number 353 but cover prices differ: $1.95 (merkin), $2.25 (canadadian) 192pp. including titles, indica etc, end pp. refer to indica to see if carcass of copy held was canadadian- or merkin- printed. no priority established nor liable to be, both bearing first printing month and year date, printing history number-string 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 as opposed to third printing's number-string, the diminished 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 (copies of this third exist with a white oval "signet $2.25" sticker over the $1.95 front cover price.) 1/1983 (date from jaffery) fourth printing retains cover art, but differs: cover price $2.50 cat# UE1794 isbn 0879977949 daw books collectors number is dropped from cover indica printing number-string 4 5 6 7 8 9 undated (9/1987 from locus) fifth printing has redesigned, much bolder typography, cover art retained cat# UE2250 isbn 0886772508 cover price $3.95 (canada), $2.95 u.s. ppint. 16th Nov 2017		Review awful. was written to complete the andre norton alphabet of novels - a fan pointed out she'd almost the entire alphabet, missing "q" and (iirc) one - or two - other letter/s: but that doesn't justify this pale, thin fictionalisation of a frpg adventure. even though it's probably the first use of an frpg world as the setting of a fantasy novel - avoid. 5 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
