annaloog 21st Dec 2022		This title is listed in Hancer's Price Guide as Avon 531 (1953). Acc. to Wikipedia, this was originally published by Julliard (France) as Le Salaire de la peur, 1950.

ppint. 8th Nov 2019		still^W wrongly^W now de-linked to^W from the present-day penguin group viking imprint (now part of random penguin); this world distributors (manchester) ltd. viking imprint needs to be distinguished from the other: i suggest by renaming this viking imprint "viking (wdl)".



ppint. 12th Apr 2019		this is from a different publisher than all of the - much later - titles/items so far listed as viking books. they were produced by the wing of the penguin group that's sometimes viking penguin, sometimes the penguin group, etc, etc. (and was a merkin pblr taken over by penguin usa in 1975, after which they made use of the viking imprint in a number of their world markets..) this 1950s-early 1960s viking imprint book was published by the pembertons: a viking that was an imprint of world distributors (manchester) ltd, and metamorphosed into consul books. it should be distinguished clearly from the viking books bought and continued as an imprint by penguin group. i suggest modifying this 1950s uk viking to "viking (wdl)"
