 reprint collection of three novelettes and seven short stories

near-identical editions/printings sharing merkin-printed covers and hence also cat#, and

cover art and b+w frontispiece by jack gaughan (cover credited, frontispiece signed "jg")
near-meaningless daw sf book no.39
cover price 95¢
192pp. including titles, indica, table of contents etc, end pp. advertising

refer to indica to check whether carcass of copy held was canadadian- or merkin- printed
no priority established nor liable to be

n.b. the next merkin printing bears a number-string "3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11", so was accounted the thrid printing by daw books, adding the number-string on spine, 451-UQ1095-095, daw books' cat# topped with new american library's sbn publisher id and tailed with three digits giving the cover price in cents; but n.b:

there also exists a canadadian edition of the fourth merkin printing, cat# UW1301, cover price $1.50, which also bears a 3456789 third printing number-string: it shares covers and therefore cat# and cover price of the fourth merkin printing (& neither bear the "daw books/collectors no.), both undated (5/1977 from locus, jaffery and by interpolation of cat#).

a: - so always check the indica page! - and
b: - "publishers!"


berkley books 1981 (& ff.) mmpb of same title adds an nf essay by frank herbert.
