refer also to publishing history to see if carcass of copy held was canadadian- or merkin- printed;
no priority in date of publication established nor liable to be, both state first printing march 1983,
but canadian-carcassed copies drop the digit ''1'' from the printing number line, leaving ''2'' as the lowest remaining digit, and formally identifying it as the second printing

slightly strangely, the backgrounds to the daw books front cover logo blocks of this duology, at least in the first edition(s), is white rather than the classic ''daw yellow''. i've no idea why - and i didn't ever think to ask don wollheim, when i had the chance.
