first published date is^W was wrong and should^W has been corrected to 1961:

this slightly-under-half of the 1931 reprint anthology, ''creeps by night: chills and thrills'' ed. dashiell hammett, was first published in 1961 by belmont books, inc. under the title, ''the red brain and other creepy thrillers'', reprinted 1965 in four square (possibly without the ''creepy'' - check title page).

the other slightly-under-half of the 1931 anthology was first published in 1961 by belmont books, inc. under the title, ''creeps by night'' ed. dashiell hammet, reprinted in four square uk p/b 1966 q.v.

between them, the two ten-story anthologies reprint 20/21 stories from the hardcover first edition anthology edited by dashiell hammet:
the dropped twenty-first story is ''a woman alone with her soul'' thomas bailey aldrich.
