annaloog 29th Jun 2022		The oldest book in my collection, some 180+ years old, had already suffered quite a bit of wear and damage to the covers, and foxing on the pages, before I exchanged my 50c for it way back in 1969 or '70. The preface to the reader ('lettore'), roughly translated, begins, "This booklet, which I present to you, a cultured and courteous reader, is extracted from the wanderings of an artist, an anonymous work that is being published in Paris with great typographic luxury together with the most delicious engravings...." Any engravings, however, are conspicuous by their absence (aside from the 'Amenitâ' page). Judging from internet search hits, copies of this book seem to be not too uncommon, with asking prices averaging about US$70.
