 And the winner is......

...neither, really. It's a tie, but for different reasons.

I first gave a casual listen to both, skipping through tracks on headphones to see if there was any marked difference I could detect, but nothing was immdediately apparent, except the very slightest suggestion of a kind of "pinch" in the loudest parts when the levels got high on this edition.

So I gave another full listen to both, quite loudly on headphones, and this definitely has slightly more "gathered" feel to the instrumentation, making it slighlty more punchy, whereas the original UK issue is a little more even all the way through... spacing, levels etc.

And on headphones this means the original is a better listen I think, a you can make everything out without too much thump.

But this comes out the winner when listening through speakers.

They haven't changed a thing (remastering wise - they haven't arsed about with the overall sound, spacing, or pushed things back and others in, or anything like that), except put it on the disc a little louder, which, as said, on headphones can be a bit too punchy... but that's a virtue through speakers, as t's able to fill the room a lttle more, with greater impact (Just enough mind... it won't make you leap out of your seat!), or if you like, a little more horse-power.

The only time a single instrument seems to my ears to be elevated over and above the average, is the guitar solo part at the end of The Brazillian (still a nice smooth Brazillian, which we all like!) which I thought was a worth while improvement.

So this for tiny bit extra bang, but the original gets my vote for more intimate listening at low volume, or through tins.

(Enough to make you fork out extra pennies for one over the other... not really, but nice if you come across the one you don't have for a quid or so).

As if to prove the differences between Italian only issues, and European issues...

... This is my copy of Invisible Touch on CD that I've been playing for yonks now; It is only having got a copy of the UK issue (Listed on this site with the green print on the disc) the other day that I was able to compare the two, and only then notice the "Virgin Dischi Spa" on the spine, as opposed to simply: "Vrigin".

There is some discussion of this "label" on discogs, saying that it is just Virgin, but a local version of it, specific to Italy.

For this reason, I just entered it as Virgin, until someone decides otherwise.

I shall be giving it the Pepsi challenge with my other copy soon to see if there are any differences, and which is better...

I shall report back soon!
