All 32 pages of the highly informative booklet added. I had to upload each page individually to make it legible (the text is hard to make out even in the original CD booklet, apparently designed for the 4-LP box and subsequently miniaturized).

Duke Ellington is generelly accepted as one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, the leader of the best-known jazz orchestra in the history of jazz and, beyond category, the greatest composer of the USA. Of his many recordings over a 50 year period, these 66 tracks produced for Victor from 1940 to 1942 represent the creative peak, induced by the arrival of three new band members: Billy Strayhorn, the young pianist, arranger and composer, Jimmy Blanton, the extraordinary double bassist who unfortunately died in 1942, only 23 years old, and Ben Webster, the orchestra's first regular tenor saxophonist. Released in 1986, this compilation of sophisticatedly composed and excellently played music is still indispensable for any jazz record collection.

As an aside, despite Ellington's importance for jazz and music in general, he didn't even make it among the first 2,000 artists on 45worlds CD Albums (he's got [Artist ID: 2479] eventually).
