In previous editions wrong takes were used on some songs.
In this edition, the proper takes have been used in all cases.
Hi Roger, these 8 CDs were issued as a box set with booklet in the USA in 1991 (Atlantic 7 82305-2), with the CDs using the artwork from the 1985 issue. I don't know if these UK issues ever came in a box. The 1985 version was also issued as 7 separate double LPs or CDs, some (all?) of the CDs leaving tracks off for timing reasons.
This was originally part of a Vinyl LP Box-Set released in 1985. At the time of writing I can't find mention of it here at 45worlds, though Discogs has a lot of info for those who are interested.
I'm not sure if this CD reissue was ever sold as a box-set, I know I bought all 8 volumes at the same time separately (if that makes sense), in HMV at Oxford Circus, London. I think they were going for about £6 or £7 each.
Another compilation of Atlantic singles, here are some of the very earliest, only two of them on the Atlantic Gold CD box added by Juke Jules yesterday. Among the newly added artists are Professor Longhair, Stick McGhee, Al Hibbler, and Joe Morris. On the inside of the sparse inlay I had scribbled the original catalog numbers of the Atlantic singles, ranging from #855 (the very first one was #851) to #975. I cleaned that from the detail scans but left it on the full scan. As the reverse of the inlay shows, this was the first of eight volumes, reaching until 1974.
