Hi Jasper, Disky is an anomaly when it comes to independent labels. Early in its existence the label was like most other independents and operated solely out of Holland but after a few years they did set up in other countries. You will probably have an Australian made Disky CD in your collection somewhere like I have. Even so the label is still generally perceived to be an independent Dutch label.

The point I was trying to make though is that we treat the major labels and the independent labels differently on the site and usually list independents as from where-ever the parent co. is based. The science behind how this is done is of course arbitrary and sometimes confounding. The XL label is a difficult one to place with its global production and distribution network plus a huge artist roster (basically a cartel of other independent labels such as Third Man et al) . So to me the XL label like Disky straddles the divide because they actually make CDs in different countries for specific markets.

All in all though you have to be an idiot savant with an encyclopedic knowledge of record labels and have the powers of Nostradamus to enter a CD. Good luck everyone.

Hi Lee, the comment you are referring to was 3 years ago. I didn't push the point - prompted more because this was initially entered as Canada. So U.S.A., Canada, Australia started to look International to me. In relation to Disky there are CDs entered under 7 different countries although the vast majority are listed as Netherlands. Anyway we all enter as best we can.

Jasper, in relation to your question on the international status of this CD I'd like to make a few observations. It seems that in general in CD World smaller independent labels such as this one Epitaph are better at getting a specific individual copy of a CD out to the global market than the major production houses (economies of scale?).

This CD is a case in point but here on 45 Worlds we also differentiate between independent and major production houses. As a rule independent labels such as Rough Trade, Domino, XL, VP, Disky, Music On Vinyl and this label Epitaph are listed as from where the parent company is established. In this case and others like it, the Country of USA reflects the ownership of the label rather than the actual distribution of the CD.

Does that make any sense Jasper? That is just my loose layman's, site-user explanation a MOD may tell you a different story but I think that's the gist of why anything on an independent label cannot be made international under any circumstances. A bit of a shame really as the independents do a much better job of actually making a real international product (one issue sold globally).

...and the cat # 86432-2 should in fact be spaced like the other entry 86432 - 2 and that's why there's two of same release. The label and barcode also match. Time to merge these entries I feel. [Mod: merged]

Hasn't this already been added? here or is there a difference?

Maybe this should be listed as an "International" release as I bought the identical CD from a retail outlet in Australia - same cat. no., same barcode, same everything including the printed in Canada note.

 Rounder?

A high percentage of the "Rounder" material is "Printed In Canada".

Being in Canada, when I see Canada on any CD packaging I naturally assume it's Canadian product. On image #314261 (back of CD case), in the bottom right-hand corner, it says 'Printed in Canada'. Tons of US imports come north so it's strange to see that on American product.
