This CD sounds way better than the Legacy remaster version of a few years back where the whole thing sounded flatlined with no depth or dynamics - a horrible job. I sold that on and this original is my keeper.

Guitarist Ray Phiri passed away a few days back. Seemingly Paul Simon has telephoned the family to pass on his condolences and to offer to help them in any way required and would like to attend the funeral.

Calm down turbo! It is, however, tiresome that this fact has to be explained, unsuccessfully it seems, time and time again.

Oh, give it a rest. This was distributed in Australia by the local branch of WEA (later Warner Music) and listed as a local release in Platterlog, as were thousands of other imports from WEA and the other majors. I am getting really sick of being told what is or isn't an Australian release by someone who doesn't live here and is unfamiliar with how our market has operated over the last few decades.

This CD was not technically issued in Australia. It was sold in Australia, which is not same as being issued (released).
Nothing on this CD points as being Australian issue.

Image #'s 316901 - 316911 are the same for Australia. WEA Australia had 90% of their CD releases in the 80's through to the early 90's manufactured in Europe. This also applied to their 7" vinyl singles from about 1989 onwards.

I will add the Australian release date to the notes shortly.

@The_Vinyl_Junkie.Ahh,the Aussie rules again:),could you at least add that fact to the notes then?,otherwise we just will be looking at European images wondering why on earth it's International;)
(i.e,"Was also issued in Australia and sold at a regular retail price (i.e,not an import)")

This has to be International as it was distributed through WEA Australia to the retail market.

 I'll make a separate entry.
I guess the album was so popular and selling so quickly, they ran out of 7599-25447-2 CDs and threw in some 925 447-2 CDs just to get the product out!

@philwill.Understood,i was looking at this release here, which,as you can see, only uses the 7599...No.,but i still think it should be entered separately,as the original entry 925 447-2 does not use 7599... anywhere on either Disc or artwork, and so 7599.... is not it's secondary Cat.No.
Hope you can see where i'm coming from;)
(Also put in a reqeust to change to Europe as the US issue has a different Cat.No./barcode,and the only other one i can find that matches the Cat.No. (from Israel) has no barcode,so European only as far as i can see, unless someone can find another match outside of Europe of course;)

Actually, @Greg78s, although 7599-25447-2 appears on the spines, inlay and back page of the booklet, it is 925 447-2 that appears on the disc - and (before you ask!) it was bought new. That's why I added the image here, much as I dislike and distrust this confused "International" concept :-)

The 7599-25447-2 scan is from a different release which uses 7599-25447-2 on the Disc as well, therefore,it's a different Cat.No./release,and so should have it's own separate entry.

You're right, I had already given it a serious consideration before I added the album. The full copyright (there was not enough space for it in the Record Notes here) reads:
© 1986 Warner Bros. Records Inc. for the U.S. & WEA International Inc. for the world outside of the U.S.

The disc face of the US issue looks nearly the same as the one made in Germany, only instead of
Manufactured in Germany by Record Service GmbH, Alsdorf
it reads
Mfg. by WEA Manufacturing Inc., Made in U.S.A.
I assume that someone will upload that one in the near future, too.

Another one that I think needs to be made "International", as WEA Australia were issuing German pressings like this as local releases in 1986, and it was the same for Paul's next album, THE RHYTHM OF THE SAINTS, in 1990. My Alsdorf pressing of this has a slightly different label layout, which I'll upload a scan of shortly.

I believe that I own seven CDs by Paul Simon, and that is a lot of someone who had made only a few records more over the last four decades. Anyway this record was his crowning achievement, something not only elegant and tasteful but rhythmic and stimulative, all provided with Simon's familiarly sophisticated lyrics. Not diminishing the album's most popular tracks (You Can Call Me Al, Graceland, and The Boy In The Bubble were all chart singles), the most impressing songs were those with the most genuine South African appearance, Homeless and Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes, both with vocal support of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the now well-known male choral group from South Africa.
