| | Well, I've trawled my reference books and the internet and can't find any reference to this Stereo gold CD version of Please Please Me.
I think we must assume it is a bootleg of unknown origin. |

| | In 1982 and in 1986 Toshiba-EMI released the 10 original Beatles UK mono albums, both times on red vinyl only, and both times with identical catalogue numbers. The only way to tell the difference between the two sets is by the small print on the backs of the covers and the lyric sheets, and by the obis. The 1982 release in the main has single lyric sheets while the 1986 release in the main has double lyric sheets.
The 1986 release celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Beatles' visit to Japan. Most of the records were sold separately but there was an unofficial boxed set entitled "The Beatles Original Mono-Record Box". These vinyl releases are very hard to find and it is believed that bootleg CD sets were made to replicate the releases. I imagine this CD is one of those bootleg CDs.
If you are content cptbeefheart, I'll change this entry to bootleg and add my two paras above to the Notes section.

| | Funny you saying it could be Japanese TopPopper, AFAIK the Asian Continent was the main place for issuing discs in those Anti-Static sleeves. I remember buying Nagaoka sleeves for my vinyl and when this appeared with an Anti-Static sleeve I thought "Maybe". |

| | It looks too good to be a boot, although it's not impossible. Could be Japanese. The Japanese did/do issue replicas from the UK discography all the time, and so this could be one. |

| | JPGR&B, The wording is "Printed and Made by Ernest J Day & Co Ltd London CD PCS 3042". Certainly is a strange one, I've never seen another anywhere and it seems an awful lot of effort to go to just to make one disc. My feeling is it's a bootleg, but I would love to know also if anybody else out there has one and what part of the world they are in as this may point to the origins of it. |

| | I would say bootleg for this, some very big clues being the absences of a barcode, any coyright credit for EMI Records Ltd. (the UK company name since 1973), and the Apple logo, which has been on all official Beatles CD's since at least the early 90's. As for the wording in the bottom right, it looks like it's just a copy of the printer's credit from the original LP sleeve, "Printed by Ernest J Day & Co Ltd. London", followed by the CD catalogue number. |

| | Hmm, very interesting. I honestly have no idea. My gut instinct is bootleg. I can't make out the wording in the bottom right-hand corner of the back of the sleeve. Could you please tell us what it says? |

| | I've uploaded this disc to see if anybody out there knows anything about it. It might well be a bootleg but I haven't a clue as I can't find any information about it anywhere. It is as you see a completely faithful repro of the original Black & Gold Stereo Label. The disc itself is factory pressed and has a gold playing surface. The only other info for it is around the hub so please see close up of that. Any help or info appreciated. I should also add that I bought this off EBay probably around 10 years ago. Cheers Guys |
